After a few months of renovations, Troy’s Bar-Be-Que is finally opening this week in Boynton Beach.

The family plans to host a soft opening Monday for friends and family. Tuesday is the big opening day for the public. The restaurant will open at 11 a.m. Tuesday, said Anthony Barber, Troy Davis’ son.

Davis and his family have outgrown their location in their small corner takeout spot at Federal Highway and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, a low-income neighborhood that city officials have for years tried to revitalize. They moved less than 2 miles south on Federal just south of Woolbright Road.

Check out the menu.

Troy’s for the past 20 years has been a Boynton go-to for local barbecue.

New all-female gym west of Boca helps moms with childcare, nutrition

BOCA RATON — The first thing you see when you walk into Burn Boot Camp is a success wall, with the stories and before-and-after photos of women who reshaped their bodies and changed their lives.

It’s often the first thing curious members ask about, said Ryan Day, who co-owns the Burn Boot Camp franchise west of Boca Raton, at 11411 W. Palmetto Park Road, with his wife, Jen Satwell-Day.

“It’s a very empowering environment,” Satwell-Day added. The couple opened the first Palm Beach County location of the all-female gym this month, and has plans to open seven more throughout Palm Beach and Broward counties.

It’s a unique concept: A gym that caters to women and mothers with an exclusively all-female membership, group workout styles, free childcare and nutrition guidance.

“For women, I understand that feeling when you walk into a gym, you’re not going to want to work out because you’re gawked at,” said Satwell-Day, who started as member of Burn Bootcamp before opening a franchise in Naples. “And if you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing, there’s extra pressure. I know. I was that woman.”

You won’t find treadmills and elliptical machines front and center at this gym. While tools are often used, the workouts happen in scheduled group sessions. Trainers will show a group how to perform a workout, before walking the room and working one-on-one with the group.

“It’s very personalized,” Day said. “You’ll find we know everyone’s names when they walk in.”

New workouts are crafted each week, based on a six-day per week workout schedule. For example, Monday may be upper body day, while Tuesday is conditioning or speed and agility training. There are a handful of group workouts per day members can sign up for, and schedules are released Sundays.

The workouts are done on a gymnastics style floor, that takes pressure off the knees and back.

Plus, members schedule one-on-one meetings with nutrition guides, who help craft a diet that fits with schedules, body types and food preferences.

“We talk to women,” Satwell-Day said. “We ask them how their day is going, how their diet is going … It’s really a lifestyle change.”

Members with children can leave them in a nearby child-care room during the hour-long workouts.

Day-Satwell, a mother of twin 4-year-old daughters, said that was what originally drew her to the North Carolina-based gym.

“My excuse for not working out was always my daughters,” said Satwell-Day, who dropped her “baby weight” by joining Burn Boot Camp.

The gym is offering free access to anyone interested in checking it out until May 31. After that, it is offering a free 15-day membership to those interested.
