Boynton Beach’s Community Redevelopment Agency has a new director.

The city’s officials appointed Mike Simon on Tuesday at the CRA board meeting. He has been interim director since October 2016, when he replaced Vivian Brooks after┬áthe majority of the City Commission, sitting as the CRA board, voted in September not to renew her┬ácontract. Brooks worked for the agency for about 12 years, and began as director in April 2011.

Simon was hired by the CRA in March of 2007. He was promoted to development director, and in October 2013 to assistant director.

Simon will receive a $135,000 annual salary, plus a $3,000 car allowance, and other benefits including health, dental, life and disability insurance, according to CRA documents.

The CRA is tasked with redeveloping blighted areas within its district, mostly along Federal Highway and in the Heart of Boynton neighborhoods.
