BOCA RATON — Kona Ice, a fleet of Hawaiian-theme shaved ice and ice cream trucks throughout the country, aims to change the theme of Tax Day.
The Boca Raton franchise of Kona Ice is offering free shaved ice to all patrons on Tax Day, the Tuesday, April 18 holiday marked by the due date for federal income taxes. The Kona Ice truck will be parked at the Sugar Sand Park complex in Boca Raton, on Military Trail just south of Palmetto Park Road, between 3-5 p.m.
Anyone who stops by gets free Kona shaved ice, according to Boca Raton franchisee Stacie Capozziello.
The truck chain is re-branding the day “National Chill Out Day.” Trucks positioned in states across the country will offer free shaved ice on an otherwise stressful day.
“I am excited for National Chill Out Day,” said Capozziello, who has operated the Boca Raton truck since 2011. “I’m grateful to have the ability to give back to my community and put a little sweetness in their hands and a smile on their face on Tax Day.”
At Sugar Sand Park, visitors can also enjoy the many amenities the complex has to offer, including a carousel, Children’s Science Explorium and recently re-opened science playground.
