BOCA RATON — Four Delray Beach teens are accused of breaking into cars in a Boca Raton neighborhood this past weekend, and at least one of them was caught in a stolen vehicle, according to Boca Raton police.

Police arrested the teens Sunday night after a resident in the L’Ambiance neighborhood, off Verde Trail east of Powerline Road and south of Glades Road, witnessed two of them jiggling at car door handles and reported it, police Chief Dan Alexander reported on his Facebook page.

Officers learned shortly afterward that a number of cars in the neighborhood were burglarized.

Three 16-year-olds and Kahamara Iman Waters, 19, are accused of the burglaries. One of them, although police did not specify who, was caught in a stolen Kia. The other three were located by a police dog shortly after they fled to a nearby pond, Alexander said.

Among the recovered stolen items was a firearm, police say. The charges filed against the teens include grand theft, burglary grand theft auto.

Alexander noted in his post that it’s often tough for police to catch criminals who cross jurisdictional lines to carry out crimes. He wrote:

“The transient nature of these criminals makes catching them a challenge. We will continue to do everything in our power to interrupt these field trips, but the key is your involvement. So, thank you, again. Keep up the great work.”
