BOCA RATON — It’s spring break for local school children, and there are plenty of ways parents can keep the kids busy this week.
There are several events and activities for children planned this week in and near Boca Raton.

Free Carousel rides at Sugar Sand Park
Sugar Sand Park, the complex at 300 S. Military Trail, is offering children free twirls on the carousel through Sunday, March 26. The carousel typically costs $1. It runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
Carnival rides and games at Red Reef Park
On Tuesday, March 21, Patch Reef Park, at 2000 Yamato Road, will have carnival rides, entertainment, arts and crafts and more for children who attend their annual Children’s Spring Fair. Each ride costs $5, or $20 for an all-day pass. For more details, visit Patch Reef Park’s website.
See the stars at the Children’s Science Explorium
On Friday, March 24, the Children’s Science Explorium, at the Sugar Sand Park complex, is offering a peak at the galaxy. Children can explore the stars in an inflatable planetarium, while organizers describe the many constellations. It costs $10 to participate and you must register in advance. Grand opening of Sugar Sand Park’s Sceince Playground
Saturday, March 25 is the long-awaited grand re-opening of Boca Raton’s popular Science Playground. The playground underwent a two-year renovation to make it safer and accessible to people with disabilities. The free grand opening will coincide with a food truck event and begin at 10 a.m. Read more about it here.
See the lights at the first Chinese Lantern Festival
West of Boca Raton, more than 800 illuminated lanterns are on display at Sunset Cove Amphitheater’s first Chinese Lantern Festival. The amphitheater, at 20405 Amphitheater Circle, is holding the festival each Wednesday through Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets are $25 at the door or $22 online for adults, $15 at the door or $12.50 online for children ages 4-12 and free for children ages 3 and younger.
