BOCA RATON — A fast-casual, make-your-own poke bowl restaurant — described by its owners as “the Chipotle of poke” — opened its doors in Boca Raton this week.

The Poke Company, on Federal Highway just west of Mizner Park, features a build-your-own bowl of poke (pronounced poh-kay), a traditional Hawaiian dish and one of the latest food trends to hit Palm Beach County. The dish is a salad-style one with raw fish as a main ingredient and toppings that range from vegetables to seaweeds to sauces.

Patrons will be able to build a poke bowl with a base of white rice, brown rice or cauliflower rice, then add raw fish, sauces and toppings, such as jalapeno, cucumber, seaweed salad and wasabi peas, among other toppings. The fast-casual eatery will offer a traditional poke sauce, a sesame-soy sauce, and  a garlic-soy “house specialty” sauce, said co-owner Seth Shaning, who came up with the restaurant concept with his cousin, Maximo Cortese.

The restaurant will also serve boba tea, a Taiwanese tea-based drink also trending now throughout the country.
