The McDonald’s restaurant that recently re-opened in Boca Raton is among the first in the country to make that possible.

The fast food joint at Boca’s Fifth Avenue Shoppes plaza, at 2140 North Federal Highway, is one of the first in the United States to roll out its new “customer experience,” which features  self-order kiosks, table service and a modern decor.

Patrons can place their orders at the large, touch-screen kiosks upon entering the store, take a seat and wait to be served. The interior is designed for comfort and made to look more like the fast food chain locations in Europe and Asia.

“McDonald’s is on a journey to raise the bar on everything we do, creating a better, ‘just for you’ experience,” Brent Upchurch, owner of Boca Raton McDonald’s location, said in an email. “These changes also create new opportunities for our crew members to truly engage with our guests.”

The restaurant also built in dual drive-through lanes.

The changes are part of a nationwide “guest experience” campaign aimed at upgrading several McDonald’s locations, but the Boca Raton fast food place is one of the first in the country to adopt it. Florida is the first state to adopt the initiative and only about a dozen restaurants in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast have renovated.

The Boca Raton restaurant re-opened to the public last week.
