BOCA RATON — An impressive crowd packed the shore at Spanish River Park on Feb. 16 to witness the release of a rehabilitated sea turtle, and it was captured from above and shared in a video on Wednesday.
Aerial footage of the sea turtle release, which drew dozens of spectators, was shared by the Palm Beach County Department of Environmental Services.
The crowd looked on as Holiday, a loggerhead sea turtle nursed to health at Boca’s Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, waddled toward the ocean. Holiday was discovered with a large hook lodged in her throat in Port St. Lucie in late November, according to Gumbo Limbo.
The hook was successfully removed through surgery, and Holiday spent the following three months recovering at Gumbo Limbo’s turtle rehabilitation center.
The sea turtle release, a free and open event often put on by Gumbo Limbo, was captured and shared from several angles on social media.
