Coast guard offers boating classes in Boynton Beach for $20

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 54 has a new sign outside their building.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 54 is hosting a Safe Boating course on Saturday.

The event is at Harvey Oyer Park at 2010 N. Federal Highway.

The class, which is a PowerPoint presentation, starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.

The course includes lessons on boat handling, seamanship, necessary safety equipment, docking, line handling and knot tying, heavy weather running conditions, rules of the road, elementary navigation and the new federal and state laws.

Those who complete the course will be given a Certificate of Completion. A Safe Boating card will be sent to each student from the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission.

The class is $20 for adults, $10 for teens ages 14 to 18 and free for children under 14 if they come with an adult who buys a ticket.
