BOCA RATON — A group of suspected burglars tried to run from police on Wednesday — but they ran to the parking lot of the Boca Raton Police Department.

Police Chief Dan Alexander posted a video on his Facebook page of footage that captured the arrest of a couple suspected burglars. Several officers ran, guns drawn, into the parking lot of the police headquarters, at Palmetto Park Road and Northwest 2nd Avenue, after a man apparently jumped a wooden fence and ended up on police property.

The group was reportedly burglarizing a nearby home when a neighbor contacted the cops, Alexander said. The group fled in a car that eventually crashed at Dixie Highway and Palmetto Park Road, just a block from the police department. Then the suspected burglars ditched the car and ran.

“Fortunately, the male suspects turned themselves in, sort of,” Alexander wrote on Facebook. “Their chosen course took them to Police Headquarters. The video included here shows our parking lot.”

They were all charged with burglary and grand theft, said Alexander, who also thanked the vigilant neighbor for reporting the crime.
