DELRAY BEACH — The 30th annual Delray Beach Turkey Trot race to benefit a local food drive is planned for Saturday, Nov. 19.
The race begins and ends at oceanfront Anchor Park in southern Delray Beach. All proceeds from the Turkey Trot, which drew nearly 800 participants last year, go toward the Keith Straghn Feed the Hungry Thanksgiving Drive.
The food drive was started three decades ago by Straghn, a Delray Beach man who delivered turkey dinners to homeless and needy families in Delray’s Pompey Park for years. The Thanksgiving drive has since grown to feed families in neighboring Boynton Beach and Boca Raton, as well as Delray Beach.
Medals will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners in the different age divisions of the 5K race. The top overall male and female runners will also be awarded.
The race begins at 7:30 a.m., but registration begins at Anchor Park at 6 a.m.
To avoid long registration lines on race day, participants can pick up information packets at the Delray Beach Community Center, at 50 NW 1st Ave., on Nov. 15-18 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. To register online, visit www.SplitSecondTiming.com.
The race is also seeking volunteers and vendors. For more information, contact the project coordinator, Danielle Beardsley, at (561) 243-7277 or BeardsleyD@mydelraybeach.com.
