A woman drove by Terry Halfhill on Friday morning and yelled through her rolled-down window, “We dodged a bullet, huh?”
“Yes,” Halfhill said with a smile while standing outside his mobile home.
He said he felt pretty lucky.
Halfhill evacuated Briny Breezes on Thursday around noon, leaving behind his mobile home to Hurricane Matthew.
Halfhill stayed nearby on Federal Highway. He was happy to learn not only did the power never go out, but there was no damage to Briny Breezes.
“We were petrified yesterday,” he said. “If that thing would have landed here, Briny Breezes wouldn’t be here right now.”
He said he walked around the neighborhood in the morning and saw a little erosion on the beach, but “almost no damage.”
