Hurricane Matthew: FAU cancels classes, events in anticipation of storm

BOCA RATON — Florida Atlantic University has cancelled classes beginning today at 3 p.m. through Sunday, but is not evacuating residential students.

In anticipation of Hurricane Matthew, expected to strengthen to a Category 4 as it approaches the east coast of Florida, FAU has cancelled the following:

  • All classes beginning Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m. through Sunday, Oct. 9
  • All non-athletic events through Sunday, Oct. 9. (The Department of Athletics will communicate game schedules as they become available.)
  • All offices beginning Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m., through Sunday, Oct. 9, with the exception of essential services

As of Wednesday afternoon, the university is allowing residential students to remain on campus. They will notify students if an evacuation is deemed necessary.
