Boynton Beach info on closures, evacuations, shelters for hurricane

From the city regarding Hurricane Matthew:

CLOSED THURSDAY AND FRIDAY:

  •  City Hall, city facilities, parks and programs, including the beach and golf course

EVACUATIONS:

  • Voluntary evacuations have been issued for Zone A (mobile homes, substandard housing or flood prone areas) and Zone B (barrier islands, mobile homes and high rises close to the Intracoastal Waterway)

SHELTERS:

  • Eight shelters will be opened in Palm Beach County at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday
  • The closest shelter to Boynton Beach residents is Boynton Beach Community High School at 4975 Park Ridge Blvd.
  • Additional locations can be found at www.readyPBC.org
  • A special needs shelter is open at the South Florida Fairgrounds, located at 9067 Southern Blvd. in West Palm Beach for those with medical needs. Space is limited and restrictions apply for the special needs shelter, contact the county’s Special Needs Program at (561) 712-6400 for more information

PETS

  • A pet friendly shelter is also opened at 2 p.m. at the West Boynton Recreation Center, 6000 Northtree Blvd. The pet shelter is available to those in a mandatory evacuation zone or mobile homes; proof of residency is required

BRIDGES

  • Intracoastal bridges leading to barrier islands will be locked down at 8 p.m. on Wednesday
  • Palm Tran will run until 12 p.m. on Thursday
  • Tri-Rail will stop running when winds reach more than 35 miles per hour
