Things to do: Mizner Park’s ‘Walk to End Alzheimer’s’ this weekend

BOCA RATON — More than 1,500 people will participate and more than $240,000 has been raised in this year’s massive “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” at Mizner Park Amphitheater.

The 2-mile walk, which raises awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, begins at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Boca Raton amphitheater. It’s one of more than 600 walks planned this fall, according to coordinators. A similar walk will be held in West Palm Beach on Saturday, Oct. 8.

The Boca Raton walk aims to raise $318,000 through individual and team walks. Participants can walk for free, but are encouraged to donate or raise money if possible.

During the walk, people will don purple shirts and hold colored flowers that reveal their connection to the disease. Blue flowers represent someone who suffers from Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Purple represents someone who lost a loved one to the diseases. Yellow represents someone caring for a person with either disease. And orange represents all other supporters.

Participants should register online and check in early on the day of the walk. For more information, visit the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” website.
