The City Commissioners were sitting as the CRA board when they voted 3-2 against renewing Vivian Brooks’ contract another year. Mayor Steven Grant and Commissioners Joe Casello and Justin Katz voted against renewing it. Commissioners Mack McCray and Christina Romelus voted to extend it.
Assistant Director Mike Simon will become the interim director. A job advertisement will be posted.
“I got elected for change and I don’t think continuing with Vivian will provide any change to the Heart of Boynton Beach and to the northeast area. My three goals are to reduce crime, clean up streets and save the old high school,” Grant told The Palm Beach Post.
Brooks’ contract is up for renewal each year. Last year, the board voted 5-2 to renew her contract. Casello and McCray voted against it.
The CRA coordinates redevelopment efforts along the Federal Highway corridor and in the Heart of Boynton district along Martin Luther King Jr. and Seacrest boulevards.
