Two women have had their purses snatched in Boca Raton less than a week apart, and city police are searching for the suspects.

The latest incident happened Tuesday, Aug. 16 just before 10 p.m. outside the Publix Supermarket at Federal Highway and Camino Real. A woman was returning to her car when a silver Toyota pulled up, she told police. Someone reached out of the passenger window and “ripped her purse off of her shoulder,” police said in a post on their Facebook page. The woman was not hurt.

A witness described the purse-snatcher as a clean-shaven man in his 20s with short hair. The witness followed the Toyota as it headed south on Federal Highway, but lost sight of the car as it sped away, police said.

This purse-snatching followed an incident Tuesday, Aug. 11 at the Palmetto Park Square parking lot near the K-Mart on Palmetto Park Road just west of Interstate 95. It was just before 7 p.m. when a silver or white vehicle pulled into the parking spot next to a woman, just after she loaded her purchases into the trunk.

A backseat passenger of the car reached through an open window and grabbed the woman’s purse, which had been on her shoulder. The car fled east through the parking lot, the woman told police.

The suspect was again described as a man in his 20s. The driver and passenger of the car appeared to be older.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call Detective Scott Hanley at (561) 338-1344 or Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at (800) 458-TIPS.
