On Sunday just before 1 a.m. Boynton Beach Police were called to 2821 S. Federal Highway, the Homing Inn, to investigate a suspicious person. The caller said he saw a man, later identified as Eddie Gentry, walk toward a parked 2008 Chrysler 300 backed into a parking space at the hotel. Gentry had a black rifle slung over his shoulder, the witness told police. In the driver’s seat was a man later identified as Kendrick Hughes, police said.

The witness followed the car as it pulled out of the parking lot and gave officers information regarding the driver’s location.

Officers pulled the driver over in the 2200 block of Northeast Fourth Street. An officer saw the Kel-Tec under the front passenger seat where Gentry was sitting.

Hughes was released since he wasn’t in possession of the firearm. He told police he didn’t know why Gentry had the gun. Gentry was arrested on a charge of a weapons offense and was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail about 3 a.m. Sunday. He was released on his own recognizance about three hours later, jail records show.
