Want to brush up on your boating skills before heading out on the water this weekend?
The Flotilla 54 USCGAUX is offering a safe-boating class on Saturday. The class will be paid for by the Perry J. Cohen Foundation, named after one of the two boys who became lost at sea while fishing last year.
The class is at Harvey Oyer Park on Federal Highway in Boynton Beach just south of Gateway Boulevard. The PowerPoint class is from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“The course encompasses boat handling, seamanship, necessary safety equipment, docking, line handling and knot tying, as well as heavy weather running conditions, rules of the road, elementary navigation and the new Federal and State laws,” according to a news release.
After completing the course, each student will receive a Certificate of Completion. Their information will then be forwarded to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission who will give a plastic Safe Boating card to each person.
