The Boynton Beach community will be making some mothers very happy this week.

The city’s police department last week asked for residents to donate wipes and diapers to be used by mothers and their children who are fleeing domestic violence through the Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse organization.

The grand total is in! Community members donated 11,185 diapers and 30,870 wipes in six days, said Stephanie Slater, the police department’s spokeswoman.

“Thank you for helping us make life a little easier for someone else. This community truly has a heart of gold and we are so proud to be part of it,” Slater wrote in a post on the department’s Facebook page.

AVDA will be picking up the donations this week.

The drive has ended at the police department, but Slater encouraged those who want to donate do so directly with AVDA.
