The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 54 is working with the Perry J. Cohen Foundation to make sure boaters are educated before they go out in the water. The foundation- named after one of the two boys who were lost at sea last year– is paying for safe-boating classes and a seminar in April and May.
An evening seminar will be held Wednesday, April 27, and May 4 at Boynton Beach High at 4975 Park Ridge Blvd. The classes are 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. And on the final session, May 4, there will be a review and quiz which is required to obtain a Florida-issued safe-boating card.
Registration is required in person at the high school, and is now open. For information, call the coast guard at 561-704-7440 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Also, the foundation is paying for safe-boating classes Saturday, May 28 and June 25 at Harvey Oyer Park at 2010 N. Federal Highway. The PowerPoint class runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Each student will be given a certificate of completion and the information will be forwarded to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for a safe boating card. To enroll, call Sandy Meridy at 561-704-7440.
