Two Boynton Beach historic properties are getting closer to being turned into new restaurants. Updates were given Tuesday night at the Boynton Community Redevelopment Agency on both Ocean Avenue sites.

CRA Director Vivian Brooks said the two sites, plus the 500 Ocean retail and residential development will be “game changers” for the city.

The site known as the Ruth Jones Cottage and previously The Little House at 480 E. Ocean Ave. is now owned by Richard Lucibella of Ocean Ridge and will be run by Lisa Mercado, the owner of The Living Room on Congress Avenue. There will be an enclosed porch with a moving glass wall and they are putting a hood in to be able to cook on site. There will be 47 seats outside and 24 inside, Architect Jim Williams said.

There will be an addition of about 520 square feet, and the restaurant will offer sidewalk dining. There will also be a fireplace. The food will be similar to The Living Room, Williams said, and will include small plates. Mercado will be emphasizing the local “brew-pub” idea, he said.

The site at 211 E. Ocean Ave. known as the Oscar Magnuson home will be bought by the Local Development Company and will be expanded by about 2,000 square feet, said Williams. They’re adding a porch, a cooking area and public restrooms. Also, there will be a bocci court and a beer garden.

The restaurant will offer small plates, and will have a “comfortable, neighborhood environment,” Williams said.

As far as the landscape design, the group is taking some tips from Jupiter’s Guanabanas.

“He wants that kind of a jungle feel,” Williams said.

The CRA board approved both site plans. Names for the restaurants have not been released.
